Matt is currently Managing Director of Co-op Food, the UK’s leading convenience retailer.

Overseeing 2,400 retail stores, an established wholesale proposition, a growing franchise operation and an ever-expanding Q-Commerce business, Matt, along with his colleagues continue to delight Co-op members and customers by providing ‘pure convenience’ across all Co-op’s channels.

Having first joined Co-op in 2013 as part of a senior team tasked with rescuing and rebuilding the business, Matt played a pivotal role in its turnaround. This success led him to progress to Chief Commercial Officer, where he was responsible for redefining the commercial offer, spanning Buying, Technical and Agriculture. His effective leadership enabled Co-op Food to continue to serve its customers and their communities throughout the pandemic, whilst remaining a commercially successful business in an unprecedented retail market.

Matt became Managing Director for Co-op Food in September 2022 and is a key member of the wider Co-op Group Operating board. 

Outside of work, Matt is a sponsor and advocate of inclusion and mental health strategies – with a strong belief that mental and physical health must be prioritised in equal measure. He enjoys spending time with his family, travelling, and keeping fit.
