State for Business Vince Cable said at Retail Week
Live.
He said the UK's etail sophistication means it needs to think
internationally. "We are way ahead of the rest of the
world in this sector. This leads to the idea that we need to think
of retail as international. The basic idea is to think of retail as
an export industry."
Asda Chief Executive Andy Clarke has pledged to
take a "belt and braces" approach to reacting to the horse meat
scandal but will not take a "knee jerk approach". Clarke told
Retail Week Live: "I will not make false promises about
what we are going to do. I cannot control the fraudulent illegal
acts up the supply chain. I can affect my sphere of influence and
give customers confidence in what is on the
label."
